Our Story
THE FOUNDER
Mohammed Al Suwaidi, born and raised Al Rams, where the Arabian Gulf meets the towering Hajar mountain range in the northern United Arab Emirates, Mohammed grew up surrounded by family stories of pearling and the lure of the sea. As the grandson of a pearl diver and the son of an entrepreneur, Mohammed’s passion for design had a heritage and a work ethic ready to be applied to something of his own – Asateer. A chance to interpret a contemporary pearling vision and breath new life into Mother of Pearl, Asateer is a crafted discovery of culture and design.
OUR HERITAGE & OUR HISTORY
The Asateer Story is centuries old and begins in a time when the people of the gulf region were recognized worldwide for pearling. The months spent at sea, the danger, the songs sung to pass time, the salt, the sweat, the livelihood resting in the shadows of the seafloor, shape a hard but beautiful story. Pearling is part of our identity, part of who we are, and part of our future.
MOTHER OF PEARL
The passion started with pearls but quickly extended to the shell they are formed within. The shimmer, the luster and the soft glow of the organic Mother of Pearl shell inspire us. Being able to craft with what others usually discard is what drives us.
WE ARE MAKERS
Our creation process is as important as the final product. We promote and enable a contemporary design to merge with Mother of Pearl and traditional raw materials, crafting creative reinterpretations that reflect the modern Emirati identity.
